Last updated: August 2026
1. About These Terms
These Terms and Conditions ("Terms") govern your booking and use of "The Future is Wild™ @ The Hillocks" (the "Experience"), including the guided Virtual Reality (VR) tour, self-guided Augmented Reality (AR) Safari, associated mobile application (the "App"), and the website at www.fiw.co.nz (the "Website"), each operated by The Hillocks Holdings Limited, a company incorporated in New Zealand ("Company", "we", "us", "our").
By purchasing a ticket, entering the site at 404 Glenorchy-Routeburn Road, Glenorchy, New Zealand ("Site"), or downloading or using the App, you ("Visitor", "you") agree to be bound by these Terms. If you are booking or attending on behalf of another person (including a minor), you confirm you have authority to accept these Terms on their behalf and that you will ensure their compliance with them.
2. Bookings, Tickets and Payment
-
Tickets may be purchased online via the Website, through authorised resellers and tour operators, or on-site subject to availability.
-
All prices are in New Zealand dollars (NZD) and are inclusive of GST unless otherwise stated.
-
A booking is confirmed only once full payment has been received and a confirmation has been issued.
-
You are responsible for checking that your booking details (date, time, number of guests) are correct at the time of purchase.
-
The Company reserves the right to amend pricing, session times, and availability at any time, provided that changes will not affect bookings already confirmed except as set out in these Terms.
3. Cancellations, Changes and Refunds
-
Cancellations made by you more than 48 hours before your scheduled session are eligible for a full refund or transfer to another date, subject to availability.
-
Cancellations made after that cut-off, or failure to arrive for a booked session ("no-show"), are non-refundable, except where required by the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 or the Fair Trading Act 1986.
-
Where the Company cancels or is unable to deliver a session (for example due to adverse weather, technical failure of the VR/AR equipment, or circumstances beyond our reasonable control), we will offer an alternative session date or a full refund at your election.
-
The Experience takes place partly outdoors and is subject to the Dart Valley’s weather conditions. We recommend checking conditions before travelling to the Site.
4. Arrival, Access and Conduct
Please arrive at least 15 minutes before your scheduled departure time. Late arrivals may not be able to join their booked group and may be offered the next available session, subject to availability.
Group sizes for the guided VR tour are limited (currently up to 15 guests per departure) to preserve the quality of the experience.
The Company reserves the right to refuse entry, or to remove any person from the Site, who is behaving in a manner that is unsafe, disruptive, intoxicated, or otherwise inconsistent with these Terms, without refund.
Visitors must follow the reasonable instructions of Company staff and guides at all times, including instructions relating to the use of VR/AR equipment, trail routes, and the AR Viewing Platform.
5. Health, Safety and Suitability
Please read this section carefully before booking.
The guided tour includes the use of Virtual Reality headsets. VR experiences are not suitable for everyone. Do not use VR equipment if you have a history of epilepsy, seizures, or other conditions triggered by flashing lights or motion; are pregnant; have a heart condition; or have been advised by a medical professional to avoid such activities.
Some visitors may experience motion sickness, dizziness, or disorientation during or after VR use. If you feel unwell at any point, please alert your guide immediately.
The Experience involves walking on natural, uneven, and occasionally steep or slippery outdoor terrain, in variable weather conditions. Please wear suitable footwear and clothing, and advise our team in advance of any mobility, sensory, or other access requirements so we can discuss suitability with you.
Participation in the Experience, including use of VR/AR equipment, is at your own risk to the extent permitted by law. You should not participate if you have any doubt about your fitness to do so, and should seek your own medical advice if unsure.
6. Intellectual Property
“The Future is Wild™” and associated names, logos, characters (including Sam and Samantha), and content are trademarks and/or copyright works owned or licensed by the Company and its licensors. All VR, AR, and audiovisual content forming part of the Experience is protected by copyright.
You may not record, reproduce, distribute, publicly perform, or create derivative works from any VR/AR content, footage, or other proprietary material experienced on-site or via the App, except as expressly permitted by us in writing.
Nothing in these Terms transfers any intellectual property rights to you.
7. Photography, Filming and Marketing
The Company, or its authorised representatives, may photograph or film visitors while on Site for promotional, marketing, and archival purposes. By attending the Experience, you consent to such use unless you notify our team on arrival that you do not wish to be photographed or filmed. Where practicable, we will accommodate such requests.
8. Third-Party Providers
Where you book the Experience through a third party (including accommodation providers, tour operators, or travel agents), that third party’s own terms and conditions will also apply to your booking with them. The Company is not responsible for the acts, omissions, or services of independent third-party providers, including transport to and from the Site.
9. Website and App Use
-
You may use the Website and App only for their intended purpose of planning, booking, and enhancing your visit to the Experience.
-
You must not attempt to interfere with, reverse-engineer, or misuse the Website, App, or any associated systems.
-
Use of the App, including any account you create, is also subject to our Privacy Policy and any additional app store terms that apply.
10. Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Company excludes all liability for any indirect, special, or consequential loss arising from your booking or attendance at the Experience. Nothing in these Terms excludes, restricts, or modifies any right or remedy that cannot lawfully be excluded, including under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 or the Fair Trading Act 1986. Personal belongings brought onto the Site are your own responsibility; the Company is not liable for loss or damage to personal property except where caused by our negligence.
11. Privacy
Our collection and use of your personal information is set out in our Privacy Policy, which forms part of these Terms.
12. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time to reflect changes to the Experience, our legal obligations, or our operations. The version in effect at the time of your booking will apply to that booking. The current version will always be available on the Website.
13. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of New Zealand. Any dispute arising from these Terms or your visit to the Experience will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the New Zealand courts.
